Black Bear Hunting in New Mexico New Mexico is a fair-chase state. A fair chase bear hunt in New Mexico is not sitting in a stand all day waiting for a bear. It is a challenging hunt, pitting man with a trained pack of hounds against the bear, New Mexico’s largest predator. New Mexico black bears boast a large color phase; black, brown (cinnamon), blonde and combination of the three. Target Outfitting averages black bears weighing 350 lbs. with the largest taken weighing 500 lbs. Bear hunts are on a 1x1 client to guide ratio.
